Can't get picture on desktop

Hi

When I try to save a picture as my desktop background it won't appear. I go into the desktop Display Properties dialog box and it won't let me into the Background, Browes or position functions. I see the picture on the desktop for a few seconds when I log in and out but as soon as the icons load up the picture is replaced with the windows background. It was working until a few weeks ago. Anybody know how to fix the problem?

Hello -

I am having exactly the same problem. I had an image that I was using as a desktop background for quite some time. But today, I ended up doing a bunch of 'clean-up' tasks due to some spyware that got installed. I ran a number of tools (I have used before, such as Spybot and CleanUp!). I also loaded the latest Windows Updates. However now I can't change my desktop background. When I go to the Background page on the Display properties (from the control panel), the Background list box is unselected (and the items unsectable) as is the Browse button.

I am baffled. I saw some mention of an ability to set a group policy to prevent changes to the desktop background. But I gave up trying to figure out how to see if such a policy is in effect (I certainly did not take any conscious action to set such a policy). Besides, this is a home computer where I am using an administrator account anyway.

This sounds quite similar to TonyX852's problem. Help? Please?
