Licensing Costs

Do we have any more detail yet as to what it is going to cost to make use of the WF components?

I'm specifically looking at rehosting the designer within an app.

I've seen posts from March '06 suggesting that things are going to be free - but where's the benefit to Microsoft in that? We're going to have to pay for it at some point so where and how? Or are all of these components just going to be included within the .NET 3.0 Runtime that you can install just like previous versions and the licensing will effectively be through Visual Studio development licenses?

Cheers

Hiya Alan

Surely 3.0 will have to be free as its being used in Office, Sharepoint, etc. So we will be paying for it in VS / MSDN licenses as well as Office, Sharepoint and BizTalk licenses.

Hi Alan,

Windows Workflow Foundation (WF) will be released as part of .NET Framework 3.0, which will be available under the Windows licensing. So, as long as you have a validly licensed copy of Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, or Windows Vista, you would be able to install the .NET Framework 3.0 runtime components (WF included) free of charge on that machine.

Essentially, this is the same model as you know today for .NET Framework 2.0.

Hope that helps.
