"The project cannot be created" error

I??e installed the software in the following order:

I'm not completely sure, but I think that if you install Office before installing VS the Office PIAS don't get installed...

Just in case, have you installed the PIAS? You can find them here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3C9A983A-AC14-4125-8BA0-D36D67E0F4AD&displaylang=en

Also, you should try and use the Microsoft PSS VSTO 2005 Client TroubleShooter, it's meant to check the clients for missing prerequisites, but in your case it might give you a hint on the PIAS being installed or not... you can find it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C9FB6A54-8069-4918-A6F9-E744928DFAC3&displaylang=en

Hope that helps!

Thanks Daniel. I've checked the system with the Microsoft PSS VSTO 2005 Client TroubleShooter and got errors only for MS InfoPath. All other requirements are met. I still get the same error.

Hi Yaroslav,

You posted that you can open VSTO projects created in a different machine... when you open them, can you actually see the designers? (the ones that show part of Excel or Word within Visual Studio)

Also, just out of curiosity, after reinstalling everything have you tried to create a normal project (a windows application for example) to see if that still works?

Hi Daniel,

Hi Yaroslav,

Quite frankly I'm not sure about what might be causing the problem... I'm thinking that the problem might be caused by Office itself, maybe some configuration that it "inherited" from the previous Office 2002 installation.

I'm guessing that you're using an Office 2003 version in a different language from english... if that's the case, have you tried installing Office 2003 Pro in english to see if it works?

I'm sorry if this doesn't help much... I'm running out of ideas...

Hi Daniel,

The missing info path programmability support may be your problem. If you go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove programs --> select Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 --> and Click "Change", it will launch the Office installer. From there, check "Choose advanced customization of applications", click "Next", and go to the following node: Microsoft Office --> Microsoft Office InfoPath --> .NET Programmability Support. Left-click it and choose "Run all from My Computer", and see if that solves your problem.

Regards,

Rufus

To Rufus,

I've installed the InfoPath (with programmability support) but the error still occurs.

To Daniel.

Maybe you're right and the problem is in the previous office version. It was the russian version (Office 2002) and now I have the english version installed (Office 2003).

Hi Yaroslav,

Probably you have already been trough this, but I guess it's ok to ask:
Have you checked if there are any "Disabled Items" in your Office Installation?

You can see this by going to the Help Menu in Word (or Excel), then selecting "About Microsoft Word" and clicking the "Disabled Items..." button. That list should normally be empty, if it's not, that may be the cause of the problem.

Something else that may cause the problem is the installation of add-ins for Office, maybe there is one installed that could be causing the conflict? (Maybe one that got installed for Office 2002 and didn't get removed when you installed 2003?).

Also, could you please post the exact error that VSTO gives you when you try to go into the designer mode of one of the previously created VSTO projects you have?

I know that's a lot of questions, but maybe that can give us a better idea of what's exactly going on!

Hi Daniel,

The "Disabled items..." lists in word and excel are empty.

Something else that may cause the problem is the installation of add-ins for Office, maybe there is one installed that could be causing the conflict?

I've uninstalled all add-ins and reinstalled office and office tools. Got the same result.

(Maybe one that got installed for Office 2002 and didn't get >>removed when you installed 2003?).

I uninstalled Office 2002 before installing 2003.

Also, could you please post the exact error that VSTO gives you when you try to go into the designer mode of one of the previously created VSTO projects you have?

This error I get for a Word project: "The Word document 'Document1.doc' is missing or corrupted."

I know that's a lot of questions, but maybe that can give us a better idea of what's exactly going on!

No problems. Thank you for your help.

Were you able to get this to work? A number of us have gone through this thread and we're basically out of ideas. I think contacting MSFT Customer Support would be the best next step in trying to help troubleshoot this problem.

Hope you're able to resolve this issue.
