Automatic email notification when Work Item is assigned?

Is there any way to get vsts to send email notification to person when there is a new work item assigned to him/her?

There is no built in mechanism for this, but you can subscribe to the WorkItemChanged event using the bissubscribe tool.

Here is a post that should help get you started. It sends out an email regardless of who they get assigned to.
