Changeset question

Hi all,

Is there anyway that I could define a changeset and enforce developer check in there code to my pre-define changeset via check in policy?

AndyPham
No, sorry. Changeset numbers must be monotonic, so it's all controlled by the server.

Hello,

I don't understand the question, could you look at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181408.aspx and verify that you mean tfs's changeset? If you mean a location on the version control server, than yes, you can do this with the policy (in fact we are doing something similar internally, because only Gauntlet can check in files :)). Just keep in mind that policies can be overriden.

thanks so much for your responded.

Actually, since TFS has changeset which is similar with Perforce changelist feature, I just want to know if TFS is able to have capability to let anyone define changeset and allow developer submit their change to pre-define changeset.

For example, from Perforce, I'm able to create changelist # 88 which associated with bug #008. Now any developer who is working on bug fix #008 has to submit their change to changelist #88. Can I do the same from TFS?

Hello,

as you can read in the changeset description, once created, changeset cannot be modified. (You cannot set the changeset id also, but it's not your biggest concern I think). The two ways I see you can solve this problem is to let all the developers shelve their changes, and then do checkin on changes from all the shelvesets (you would probably do build and sanity test then). If you need to check-in the changes in parts, then labels can help you (but you cannot associate label with work item).

Hope this helps
