Check OUt - Get Latest Version

We had an issue this morning where a developer checked out some code that I edited last night. When she went to check it in, it told here there were conflicts.

It seems that when you check out a file, it does not get the latest version.

Is it possible to change this so when you check a file out, it gets the latest version from Source Control? It seems really silly and awkwards to not have this option available by default.

Hello,

unfortunately in Team Foundation Server we took different approach and we don't do Get Latest on Checkout (more details on this here). However it's very probable that we will add such option in the next release.

Please bring it back. Lack of this expected functionality is really hurting our team and frustrates developers that are trying to use the product. I understand the idea behind the change, but please make this configurable so that teams can decide what works best for them.

BTW, how do you use this macro that you describe?

Well, the commands have changed a little since the time Ed blogged about this. Now I think it should look like this:
