Connection to Oracle

After I upgrade my TFS beta client to production license version, I am unable to connect to the backend oracle database. I am using oracle 8.5 as the client and the error I get is - can not resolve TNS server name error number 12154.

Any ideas on why this is happening? I am on XP pro SP2 using IIS 5.1 and .NET 2.0 (VS 2005).

Thanks,

anabhra

Hi Anabhra:

Can you elaborate more on your problem? TFS does not use any of the Oracle products we use SQL for our backend, hence the problem is probably soemthing else not related to TFS. I assume that your connection with Oracle is from a solution that has a datasource.

Am I misreading the problem? In the envent that what you are doing is some extensibility then share that with us and we will seee if we can help.

Thanks for getting back to me.

We access the TNSnames.ora file from a network drive. ASPNET account did not have access to this drive and hence the issue. Once we resolved this, by getting the file on the local machine, we were able to connect.

Earlier, ie; before TFS upgrade, the ASPNET account could access the drive as it belonged to the authenticated users group on the local box.

The question I still have is - Does TFS install alter the permissions of ASPNET account?

Thanks,

anabhra

Hi:

No we do not alter any of the permissions ... Now if when you installed TFS the .Net framework or something else was also installed or updated that might have done it.

thanks, mario
