Recreate Reports


After a number of upgrades through various editions of Team System we are finally at RTM. All of the data made it except the reports for old projects and we don't have a backup we can go to for them. How do we recreate the report infastructre needed for a project without creating a new Team Project? Our Reporting services are working for new Projects but I'd like to fix an old project without migrating to new a new one.

Hi Tony,

Welcome to RTM!  Glad to have you aboard! :)

We provide a tool that will updating the out-of-box reports.  This is described in the upgrade instructions - Step 13 for single server upgrades and Step 19 for dual server upgrades

Any custom reports will probably not work with the new warehouse cube structure. You must modify them to account for these changes. The most significant of these changes occurs in the work item measure group.

Mauli,

We weren't able to upgrade the Reports DB and were forced to delete it.

We were able to re-create the database so that new projects would have the appropriate Reports.

We have 3 projects which are missing the reports (In Team Explorer for those projects the Reports Folder has a red X through it).

We don't care about the old data, just how to re-create the entries for the 3 projects so that new report data can be generated for them.

Does that make sense?

Hi Tony,

Yes it does make sense.  You can still use this upgrade tool to upload the new reports.

In addition you'll need to recreate the data source information on the report server.

Recreate Data Sources:

  1. Navigate to http://<report server>/reports
  2. Click "New Data Source"
  3. For directions on filling out the information in the data source, you can refer to "Restoring Connections for Reporting Services" in this link: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252516.aspx
  4. There are two data sources you need to create: TfsOlapReportDS and TfsReportDS

Create folders for your projects:

  1. Navigate to http://<report server>/reports
  2. Click "New Folder" and put in the name of the project -- do this for each of your team projects.

Now you can use the upgrade tool to upload the new reports.

This should get you up and running with the new reports.
