Let me tell you my understanding of your situation, and please let me know if I'm on track or not.

You have created a work item type called "Test Case" that is part of your team project. You have created work items that are of type "Test Case" (as opposed to "Bug" or "Task"). You have executed a few tests and published the test results to the TFS server.

Have you done any linking between the work items created and the test results? If not, then the system wont know that those particular test results belong to that particular work item. You can create reports on test results using the warehouse, but unless the test result is linked to the work item, the system wont know that they are linked.

I will introduce my situation in details.

My purpose is to show my PM what kind of report VSTS can generate for test cases.

I did not creat work item called "Test Case". Instead, I imported some test cases from Product Studio into TFS server, but i did not import test results into TFS server. Some of the test cases are executed and some are not. There is a field called "CC Scenario" in Product Studio which stored if the test case is executed or not. But i do not find that field in TFSWarehouse. I think maybe i need to import the test result into TFS and judge by that.

Hi Tommy, can you please explain exactly what is what you did you when you say that you imported test cases for Product Studio into TFS server.

In the RTM version of TFS the common way of getting test results into the system is by publishing a test run into an existing build. Work Items in TFS are not meant to represent test cases but you can created links from Work Items to already published test results to build a relationship between them.

Product Studio is a tool we used to manage bugs and test cases before. We are considering to use VSTS to manage bugs and test cases now. I found a tool in toolbox to import the test case from Product Studio into TFS database. I did not find a tool to import test result from PS into TFS, so the test result in TFS database is still empty yet.

My question is, can i select the executed test cases from TFS database if the test result DB is empty?

From your reply i think the answer is negtive. I need to publish some test result to TFS and create link from the test cases and the test result.
