The below is from my network administrator after troubleshooting a problem adding a user to a group in TFS. It continually refused to add the user with a cryptic message about not finding the user on the domain (although it verified the name) and checking the trust relationships:
"Jane Doe is a member of advertising/marketing. The OU she is in is called Advertising/Marketing. However, '/' is a reserved character, so in order to not freak LDAP/AD out, the full object name precedes it with the escape character '\'. Thus:
