System Restore Space

Hey im using Windows Server 2003 and I can't seem to find information regarding System Resore Backup Space. On a regular windows computer i know you simply go to my computer > properties, and there is a slider indicating how much space is being used up for system restore on the computer. How do you access this on Windows Server 2003?

While this is not a forum for Windows Server 2003 questions, I think I can help you.

As far as I can tell, Windows Server 2003 doesn't have the same "System Restore" functionality that XP has.

Instead, in the properties/tools tab for any given attached drive, you can bring up a backup/restore wizard, which will let you set up scheduled backups (including using backup media instead of the same drive or another drive, if desired).

I went to tools/Backup Now... and then selected advanced mode, but the wizard mode seems to more or less parallel the XP System Restore toolset (albeit with more bells and whistles).

I think I know why he is asking. Our 2003 server's system information folder is currently 16GB and we can't work out why. The fact is 2003 server uses this folder fo a few things, file indexing for example. I too will be checing out the server forums.

Found our issue. It may be the same case here. 2003 server has a shadow copy feature which allows users to go back and view / restore old copies of files on shared drives. These shadow copied files seem to show up in system volume information folder on the drive with the shares on it. If you right click on your HDD eg c: and choose properties. Then choose Shadow Copies, you can set limits on the size of these copies or disable them totally. Be carefull though as your backup software might use this feature for it's purpouses. (I'm about to find out what it's going to do with mine.) Hope this helps
