TFS RC Setup fails with "Internet Information Services (IIS)...

Hi,

I am having a vary strange problem. I am trying to install TFS RC and in the initial checks it stops with the following message

-----------------------------------

The System Health Check has detected a problem that will cause Setup to fail.

Description
Internet Information Services (IIS) Front Page Server Extensions are installed

Workaround / Remedy
Internet Information Services (IIS) Front Page Extensions must not be installed. Uninstall (IIS) Front Page Extensions and run setup again.

More information
For additional information and help please refer to: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52502
--------------------------------------

There used to be Front Page Server Extensions on the box but I removed them.
Any idea what's going on?

Thanks,
Momtchil

Try reinstalling IIS(without selecting FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions),

Here are the detailed steps

To install IIS using Add or Remove Programs utility

  1. From Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

    The Windows Components Wizard starts.

  3. On the Windows Components page, select Application Server, and then click Details.

  4. If not already checked, select ASP.NET, and then click OK.

    Important

If you select Internet Information Services (IIS) and then click Details, do not select FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions. This server will host Windows SharePoint Services, which is incompatible with FrontPage Server Extensions.

  5. On the Windows Components page, click Next.

    Note

You may be prompted for your Windows Server 2003 installation media.

  6. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Ok. I'm running into the same problem and its driving me bananas.

I know for a FACT that the Frontpage Extensions are not installed (they are unchecked in Windows Setup). I also reinstalled, uninstalled these Frontpage Server Extensions several different times. This System Health Check keeps on saying its installed. I even uninstalled IIS completely, rebooted, then reinstalled only the base portions of IIS.

OK.. seriously guys. The System Health Check is GREAT but why, oh why, oh why does it BLOCK the install if one little thing fails? Does this seem crazy to anyone else.

If one of the TFS devs is on this, can they please let me know what registry entry or file they check for this so I can go an make it so it passes. Alternatively, I would love to know a way to skip this system health check and install Team Foundation Server. Or maybe someone has a utility that will completely do away with all things Frontpage on a server. I cant seem to google for this because it runs into all these lame CPanel docs.

Thanks A TON in advance if anyone can help me on this.

Just spent another 5 hours at this and still nothing..

Tried using the owsadm.exe tool to remove Frontpage Server Extensions as described here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/sharepoint/readme.mspx

It says frontpage server extensions not installed. However the Web Service Extensions folder on IIS Management tool shows Frontpage Server Extensions as an entry. I've marked it as "Prohibited" but there doesnt seem to be any way to uninstall this retarded extension.

Anyone have any suggestions? I've posted to the Frontpage discussions but that board doesnt look too active.

I'd love to try Team Server for our dev group but the damn thing is blocked by this health check. Maybe we'll just stick with CVS for now

I've just had a very similar problem. and TS install has now accepted my install. I too had removed frontpage server extensions using windows components and still got the error.

To resolve the issue i removed 2 references from my IIS metabase XML file that refered to Frontpage. i just used Find from Notepad within the file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\MetaBase.xml

one was an IISFilter and the other in my default website.

To change the metabase file i needed to also stop all IIS processes from services.

Hope this helps :)
