TF30177: Team Project Creation Failed

It feels like, I am going one step forward, just to be thrown two steps back.

Ok, my problem is close to be the same as with TFS BETA3 (now i use the CTP).

When I try to create a new team project, it fails with this (friendly) message:

Error
Unable to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services at COMMMO-TFSRV

Explanation
The Project Creation Wizard was not able to connect to the Windows SharePoint Services at COMMMO-TFSRV. The reason for the failed connection cannot be determined at this time. Because the connection failed, the wizard was not able to complete creating the Windows SharePoint Services site.

User Action
Contact the administrator for the Windows SharePoint Services at COMMMO-TFSRV to confirm that the server is available on the network. Also, you might find additional helpful information in the project creation log. The log shows each action taken by the wizard at the time of the failure and may include additional details about the error.

Warning
TF30144: The New Team Project Wizard attempted to roll back all of the steps taken to this point but was unsuccessful. Contact your Team Foundation Server administrator for further instructions.

If i go to the log, you have this also:

Any help is much appreciated - and I do hope, that all my submissions, will help improve the installation process in the final release(!).

Kind regards from Denmark,

Michael,

Sorry for the issues that you've been running in to with project creation.

Can you browse to http://COMMMO-TFSRV/default.aspx from your client machine? Does this work?

If so, did you re-install Sharepoint at any time after installing B3R or CTP?

Is there a firewall between the client and the server that stops you from being able to see the Sharepoint Admin Site?

Thanks,

Dan Kershaw [msft]

I am kinda stucked here - any sugestions, mate?

Note: I did not reinstall sharepoint.
And the client and server is running on the same virtual machine.

As a last resort, i tried to manually set sharepoint to .NET 2.0 - but it comes with the same error message as in earlier in this post (This Windows SharePoint Services virtual server has not been configured for use with ASP.NET 2.0.50727.42. For more information, please refer to Knowledge Base article 894903 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=42660.)

I had the exact same problem. This command actually works.. what I did originally to get the same error that you did, was to copy and paste the command, the
"stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url"
text with my mouse directly from the microsoft website directly to the command line. Something about doing this apparently enters an incorrect character somewhere, because when typed it in manually, it works.

monztre

The dashes that are used on http://support.microsoft.com/?id=894903 are the long dashes not the short ones. Replace them with normal dashes and the command works fine.

MS needs to fix the KB so that when people cut and paste the command it copies the proper 'dash' character

Scooter!

Same issues were affecting us, http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=150809&SiteID=1&mode=1 got me past it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks mate - it got me a litle furhter.

However, when I try to browse the page i was told, i receive this error now: The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database.

Normally I am not the quitter-type-of-person, but I am beginning to think if this is worth the time. Sigh.

Anyway, thanks for helping :)

At this point, the reason for the failure is because the setup wasn't able to extend the necessary site and configure things correctly.

You can do this manually by going though the Administrator site or you can uninstall and re-install the product to have the product extend it for you.  Just remember, that when uninstalling, make sure that all the databases that were created by the product are removed.

Simple fix worked for me:

1. Start IIS manager

2. Get properties of SharePoint Admin site

3. Change port to the default 17012 (was 25417 for some reason?)

Bingo

I also used the last tab of properties in IIS to select .NET 2 for all my sites
