i am trying to install vs-tfs..i get "error 28002.unknown error".I follwed the steps from help file and made no deviations.

my domin controller and dns is running windows 2003 standard edition.

Could you please provide some more detail on your setup? Are you installing a single or dual server installation? At what point during the installation does the failure occur?
