Changing user while Connecting to Team Foundation Server using Vi...

Hi,

I connected to Team Foundation Server usin Visual Studio 2005, with a user name and password. Now whenever I connect to Team Foundation Server, the Studio users that user name and password. I wan to connect using a different user name. How can I do so. I have tried cleaning the history from Internet Options, but it doesn't work.

Please help.

Rajiv,

The client will use your authenticated windows account to connect to TFS. If you need to connect as another user - you can start visual studio with the alternate users credentials (right-click on the icon, run-as).

Hope it helps

Hi Chandru,

I don't use my windows account to connect to TFS. I have another user name and password for TFS account. When I start Visual Studio, it automatically picks my username and password, which I used to connect to TFS for the first time and connects to TFS. Now I want to connect as some other user. How can I force Visual Studio to prompt me for Username and password. If I perform operations through commandline I can do this by giving additional option /login:<username> option.

One more interesting thing. I accesssed TFS using Internet Explorer. It asked me for the username and password for the first time. Now Internet Explorer is picking that username and password itself. It is not asking me to provide them. I have tried cleaning passwords from Internet Options. It clears the passwords for other sites but not for TFS.

Please help

Rajiv,

1. What I meant is you need to start Visual studio using the "alternate accounts" credentials. You can do this by right clicking on the visual studio icon and selecting run as. This will popup a dialog asking for your credentials - enter your new account credentials here. When you connect to TFS now - it will use the credentials you provided.

2. For IE - is the TFS site among your trusted sites or intranet sites? You can tell this by the icon on the right side of the browser. If so IE will automatically use your windows credentials to log you on. You can disable this by going to Tools->Internet Options->Security-> Click on the site and select custom level. The option is under the User Authentication section. As an alternate you can start ie the same way as visual studio - by right clicking, run as.

Hope it helps

Cheers

I am connecting to another network using a VPN and now I tried "run as" over the Visual studio icon. I used my credentials in that network and i am prompted with the message -"Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.". Please help me out.

You should be able to remove the cached credentials from Control Panel -> Stored Usernames and Passwords.
