Availability of Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005

I have been reading up on the different versions of VS2005, and I can't find where VEA 2005 fits in.  How can I get it in a cost effective manner, when the majority of my work is DB design?  Or, is Visio 2005 (not VEA) going to have the same database round-trip features?

Thanks,

Hi Kevin,

My understanding is that VEA 2005 is bundled with Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Architects and Visual Studio Team Suite.

I hope that helps,

Tony.

VEA is included with all the Team Editions and VS Pro, when accompanied by an MSDN Premium Subscription.

Hello Ajay,

I could not find your statement that VEA is included in VS Pro?

I've checked the following links:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/vsts/compare/

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/vsts/compare/

I know that Visio is included into the MSDN subscription but for testing purpose.

Can you advise?

I want to evaluate Visio for Enterprise Architects 2005 along with my eval copy of VS Team Suite. How can I do this? I can't believe MS would make me pay for a subscription just to do this. What if I end up not wanting to purchase VS Team Suite? Now I am stuck with a $5500 subscription for the MSDN Premium and I may not want that either. There has to be a better way to evaluate both.

Hello
The version of Viso is 2003.

From the following web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/visio/prodinfo/editions.mspx

Visio Enterprise Architect

Microsoft Visual Studio Team System includes advanced Visio-based modeling solutions for developers. Visio Enterprise Architect includes all of the solutions in Visio Professional 2003 plus full-featured database and software modeling solutions and is available only as part of Visual Studio 2005 Team System (Developer, Tester, Architect) or as part of Visual Studio Professional with MSDN Premium.

You should check to see if there is a Viso folder on the CD/DVD with it's own setup.exe. If there is not then it would appear that Viso is not shipping as part of the trial edition.

FYI: The Viso integration with Visual Studio 2005 is pretty much the same as it was with VS 2003.

Thanks

Thank you Brian for your response. However, the company I work for has never used VS 2003. So, to say VS 2005 is pretty much the same VS 2003 doesn't mean a whole lot to us. We are in the process of evaluating different tools to help us with database modeling, application design, and documentation. We would also like a tool to help us collaborate better due to the different geographical locations our team members are located. We were very excited to look at VS 2005 Team Suite with the Visio Enterprise Architect. However, we don't want to have to buy the Premium subscription to do this. We do own just plain Visio 2003, not the Enterprise Architect edition, but it's database modeling capabilities are lacking. Hence, the reason we wanted to evaluate the VS 2005 Team Suite, which we understood give us the capabilities we are looking for.

I understand, however I have no control over what ships as part of the eval versions of software. You may want to contact sales team to see if there is anything they can do. If you are near a sales office they may be able to do an on-site demo for you.
