VS problem

Hello everyone!

How it is possible to get the source control integration in the Solution Explorer. Moreover, how to get the complete Visual Studio solution from a project hosted on Codeplex?
I have had to reinstall my whole system (xp). I did a backup of my project but when I tried to open it in Visual Studio I got information about lost bindings. I can make a connection to the Team Foundation Server. I can see my project in the Team Explorer. I can move files, do checkout and so on but I do not know how to integrate it with a solution and the Solution Explorer. If I try to get it somehow I get information that the solution file (with my previous path) was not found. And that's true. But what's to do now?
I will appreciate any help.

Best regards

Check that Team Foundation Server is your Source-Code Control Provider. From the Tools menu choose Options and then click on the Source Control node in the tree and check that the "Current source control plug-in" is set to "Visual Studio Team Foundation Server".

Yes, it is already set up. Hmm... Let's assume I am a new developer that joined a project. I have VS Standard Edition (or Pro) and the TeamExplorer Plug-in from Codeplex. I know all settings to codeplex (server address, ports, login, pass etc.). I did the setting you adviced. Even more, I can open the project in the Team Explorer window. I can delete it. I can shelve changes, etc, etc.

But, how should I do a 'SVN-like check-out'? How to get the whole project onto my disk and how to start coding and controlling the code in the Solution Explorer window?

I could do that if I created a new project and do 'Add to a source control'. But how to start working with an existing one?

Thanks,

  1. You need to set up a Workspace by opening the Source Control Explorer, from the Workspace combo choose Workspaces..., and add a new workspace.
  2. Then you need to get the latest version of your source-code by right-clicking the project in the Source Control Explorer (NOT Team Explorer) and choose Get Latest Version.
  3. Then you can open your .sln file and work normally.
