I registered, activated the software, then logged in. At this point, I got the error:
Error: The page you have requested is unavailable or you do not have access.
Interesting.

I'm getting the same problem, any ideas?

I registered Visual Basic Express 2005 today and got the email from "Confirm<@>profile.microsoft.com" and followed the link labelled "Registration Benefit Portal" to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52054
At first it took me to yet another registration page for "Microsoft Connect". I stupidly went ahead and filled that in - now it seems I have to send an email and wait about a month to get un-registered from that.
Now when I follow that link again, I get the same error others have referred to above after going through the passport login. Your statement that program registrations are usually a hassle and you get nothing in return and Microsoft are changing all that is beginning to look like a sick joke! <G>
Hey, it's no sweat, I appreciate the free product, it's just that you held out a carrot and then snatched it away just as I tried to grab it. I'll check back here for the answer in due course.
