Problem when installing .NET Framework

Well, my setup file is continually stalling when I try to install Visual C++ 2005 Express, so I saw in the FAQ that installing .NET Framework 2.0 sometimes helps. So I try that. However, my install process freezes at this point in the install:

Anyone know why?

Can you see if installing from the manual download fixes your problem? If not, can you paste your install log which is located in %temp% and is named "dd_vsinstall80.txt"?

I think there was a miscommunication. I've tried manual install with VC++ express, but the setup file just runs in the background, no window pops up. I read in the FAQ that this might have to do with .NET Framework 2.0, which I don't have installed. I'm having errors while trying to install .NET Framework.

First make sure that your computer is updated with the latest service packs from Windows Update. Then try to install the core components for setup below:

Windows Installer 3.1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en

.NET 2.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

If you are having trouble installing .NET 2.0, please post the error message you are receiving. Let me know what happens after that.

I've tried to install it again after doing what you've said, but the exact same thing happens. It freezes at the exact point I have a screenshot of in my first post.

Nevermind, I got it working. It seems all I had to do was deactivate my firewall during setup.
